Weekend Travel

Last weekend we stayed at the William Cox Inn, a B&B situated in a serene, unspoiled area located near Charlottesville, Virginia and the Blue Ridge foothills. You enter the William Cox Inn farm via a long forested and graveled mountain lane.

Loved the inn layout and room decor.

The very large Gathering Room is exactly that – a gathering place for guests to enjoy socializing and evening wine and chocolates.

A long side porch with inviting rocking chairs overlooks the pool and the mountain range of the Shenandoah National Park.

Every which way you turn there are views of the mountains.

It’s nice to sip wine under the gazebo and just watch nature take its course.

Lily, the awfully sweet golden retriever house dog, often chaperoned us on our walks through the woods and down to the Roach River bank.

The best part – the bed and breakfast part – was the scrumptious breakfast menu served in the original late 1770s part of the inn.

Our hosts, Janet and Tom, follow the Slow Food Movement. Meals are prepared using the inn’s sustainable kitchen garden, a flock of free-range organic-fed chickens fed non-GMO feed and items from local farms. Breakfasts included such yummy foods like freshly squeezed organic OJ, yogurt with homemade granola, fruits infused with lemon verbena zest, award-winning recipe biscuits and homemade organic strawberry preserves, oatmeal walnut pancakes, blueberry pancakes, goat cheese and asparagus frittata (made from the farm eggs) and local farm nitrate-free bacon.

We thought it really neat that Janet and Tom walk Lily and their four pet goats down to the riverbank each evening. (I’m told the goats think they’re dogs). The two-month old baby was so cute running along behind Lily.

Needless to say, we had a very restful and lovely stay last weekend.

Did a lot of sightseeing and junking – more on that to come later 🙂

Can’t believe we’ve been together 33 years!

Have a great week! – – Joanne
