Teal Holly Leaves Runner

The quilt guild annual retreat was coming up and I needed a quick  – and easy – Christmas gift idea for my guild advent gift. I found a free table runner pattern online at Carol’s Quilts. Not only do I like the “nontraditional” look; I was able to incorporate teal scraps from an ovarian cancer quilt fundraiser (Go Teal it on the Mountain) block sponsored by Kate from Tall Tales From Chiconia‘s.

I used the teal scraps for the holly leaves, low volume squares for the background and added red jumbo rickrack and berry fabric. I adhered and quickly sewed around each raw edge applique several times using black thread and free-quilted down each side edge in cream thread. Honestly, I’m not sure if I like the back or front more? teal-christmas-runner-1.jpg

Regardless, I hope my Advent Partner likes it. 🙂

Have a good week!! – – Joanne

    1. Thank you! It was also my first attempt at free motion quilting. I like that her pattern calls for a repeated/overlaying line of quilting so my mistakes don’t show. 🙂
