I Miss Her Terribly

tvrm-phoebe.jpg

Her name was Miss Phoebe Darling and she gave us 13+ fantastically bouncy, bubbly years.

My Phoebe Darling
If you’ve ever met a Boston terrier, you know what I mean when I say she was an animated spitfire! She spent her early days playing tug-of-war, stealing borrowing her sister pup’s toys or bones and hiding them inside her crate, burrowing behind the sofa cushions to nap… In her elder years, she was a little slower, took more naps in the sun, cuddled more…

She slipped under my heart when I wasn’t paying attention. She was always emotionally there for me, always forgiving, always loyal. I miss her terribly.

RIP, Phoebe Darling

Douley

Bannon O’Doul

“Douley”

(2008-2016)

Loyal friend.  Defender of the backyard. Charmer. Tag and tug of war playmate. Stalwart cancer care giver.  Jester. Green bean aficionado. Snoring champion. Enemy of squirrels. A gentleman.

Dearly missed.

Dog Days of Summer Dog Bed

When it’s hot outside, you just want to cool off and take it easy.

Phoebebed

Made of scrap lumber and discounted chair pads; our pups, Pearl (rescue beagle), Douley and Phoebe Darling (Boston terrors) absolutely LOVE their new beds!

How did we make them?

Screw 2X2′ and 2X3′ lengths into a frame, shorter lengths to the inside

Frame A

Screw the 2X2′ support brace in middle of frame, 2″ below lip

Screw the four 12″ feet inside frame, 2″ below lip. The feet act as addition bed supports

Posts2

Cut plywood to fit inside frame, on top of feet and support brace – you may need to trim to make it fit

plywood

Drill drain holes in plywood bed, about 3″ apart

Add a patio chair pad, or bedding of choice. The 2″ drop below the lip helps keep the pad in place

go

Supplies:

  • 2X6″ pressure treated board, cut in two 3′ lengths (sides)
  • 2X6″ pressure treated board, cut in three 2′ lengths (sides, support brace)
  • 4X4″ pressure treated post, cut in 12″ lengths (feet)
  • 2X3′ pressure treated plywood (bed)
  • outdoor patio chair pad
  • drill, screws

Our pups are so spoiled; they refuse to chase the squirrels!

Quilt #4 :: Chevron

Baby, it's cold outside!
Baby, it’s cold outside!

Back to work this Monday. Due to a 4-6 inch sow-ice-snow combination, schools were closed all week. Sweats, TV binging, baked cookies and hot cocoa. Staying inside, trying to keep warm. I tackled another quilt project.

I’m starting to get the hang of these mathematical things.

But, I must admit, piecing the chevrons on a slant is not for the spatially impaired.  This one beat me up. 😉  Please don’t look too closely!

Crazy weather these days. Phoebe Darling awoke, so Dylann absconded with the quilt 🙂

Happy Birthday Phoebe Darling!

Phoebe Darling is such a little brat, but she’s MY little brat.

Would you please just look at the camera?

This tiny spitfire is always busy. Her day consists of chasing her brudder pup, Douley, stealing borrowing Miss Pearl’s toys and bones and hiding them in her crate and burrowing behind the sofa cushions to nap.

Phoebe Darling, 2005, its cold..
All in a day’s work . . .

It can’t have been ten years ago that she wiggled her way into our hearts?!?

Best Laid Plans or Better Known As: Plan B

With the Townhouse Renovation complete we can focus on revamping our bedroom and replacing the family room carpet with hardwood flooring – Plan A. Ten years ago, we lightened up the room by replacing the sliding door with a wooden swing door and painting the paneled walls a buttery yellow. I dug around and found old images ( a little blurry).

Over the last ten years we have acquired many pets – the first being our very spoiled Miss Phoebe Darling. It is time to replace the carpet. 😉
