Scrap Happy Roundabout 2

Between bringing my mother to her weekly outpatient visits, school holiday events and home life shenanigans not much sewing happening this month. However, I did get to play a little with my Scrap Happy project from last month (creating a new quilt block using strip scraps and the block trimmings). Scrap Happy is a fun reuse-recycle-reduce activity (hosted by Kate and Gun ) to help one use up scraps of anything from past projects.

DECEMBER SCRAP HAPPY PROJECT

I’ve cut last month’s project block into quarters. The quarters were then flipped (solid center pointing out) and sewn back together. Lining up the seams was not a priority. 😀

Turn these scraps into 1 block

 

I rather like this look…might even vary it a little. I’ve only had the chance to make a few.

Hopefully, during the school holiday break I’ll be able to work on this project.

Scrap Happy Roundabout

My ScrapHappy Project (hosted by Kate and Gun ) has no pre-plan nor timeline this month.  It is made of a bunch of  strips and tiny square scraps left over from an Alison Glass quilt top. I have hoarded vibrant colors scraps and pre-cuts of her fabric for several years. So…of course, I can’t bear to throw out any of these scraps. Thank goodness for Scrap Happy! 😀 

NOVEMBER SCRAP HAPPY PROJECT

I can’t take credit for this block idea that I saw online a year or two ago. I’ve tried, but I can’t find it now. With solid fuchsia cotton squares I have on hand; I started sewing scraps around and around the edges. Not particularly worried about lining up seams. I am not even sure what direction I am going in, or what the end product will look like. 

I am saving and incorporate the lovely trimmed edges. This is a Scrap Happy project after all. 😉  I am thinking about cutting this block in half horizontally and vertically; then putting it back together much like a disappearing nine-patch. I am greatly open to block suggestions and ideas.  I usually worry that I’ll run out of fabric. Now? I hope I don’t run out of scraps! LOL. By the way, a couple of years ago I toured Alison’s home workshop studio. What a treat! Thought you might want to take a peek.

Scrap Happy Hometown Block 2

It’s mid-month and time for the ScrapHappy Project hosted by Kate and Gun.  I’ve completed my state/hometown blocks for the swap initiated by two friends. Paper piecing has really intrigued me. Participating in Scrap Happy has done what I’d hope: encourage me to learn more about quilting. So, now I am on the search for a local quilt paper piecing class. 

OCTOBER SCRAPPY PROJECT CHOICE

I was determined to include fields, forests, waterways — all the way to the coastline of Virginia Beach.  Last SH post, I’d figured out the Blue Ridge Mountain Range.  I added prints and solids for the Piedmont’s rolling hills and sandy coastline.  I thought the batiks worked rather well for the waterways. Eh. That pesky top, left corner, again…

Scrap Happy Hometown Block

It’s mid-month and time for the ScrapHappy Project hosted by Kate and Gun.  I’m posting a wee bit early as we may lose electric power due to outlying effects of Hurricane Florence. One of my quilty friends came up with the idea of a “state/home town” quilt block swap. While I admire appliqué and paper piecing; I am not in the least bit comfortable with my own lack of expertise. So I put it off. For two years. 😛 The other day I got to thinking…what a great way to use up scraps and participate in ScrapHappy! 

SEPTEMBER SCRAPPY PROJECT CHOICE

Virginia, one of the original thirteen colonies, has it all: The Atlantic Ocean, Chesapeake Bay, the Piedmont, Blue Ridge Mountain Range, and loads of history. My hometown is in Virginia Beach.

I have a vague idea for my design, I’m starting with the Blue Ridge Mountain Range and working my way toward the coast.

Scrap Happy Pillow

Unlike the local public school system, that wisely starts back AFTER Labor Day, I start back to my school on Monday.  It doesn’t help that my school is located one block from the oceanfront, either. (Cue: Little ones sighing as they watch beach goers, surfers, and generally everyone else walking or biking towards the beach).  LOL. 😀

It’s mid-month and time for the ScrapHappy Project hosted by Kate and Gun.  There are many ideas percolating in my head, but in getting ready for school to open I’ve only completed a tiny scrappy project. 

AUGUST SCRAPPY PROJECT CHOICE

I just loved the colors and prints of of Micheal Miller’s Flower Shop collection.  For August’s project I sewed a pillow case using scraps from a quilt I sewed for my 86-year old mom.

I am excited to participate in my first ScrapHappy Project hosted by Kate and Gun.  Not only will it be fun to share scrap projects; but I hope to learn more about quilting, maybe finish those WIPs, and leave my own comfort zone.

JULY SCRAPPY PROJECT CHOICE

I save interesting selvages (or selvedge) from various projects. I find I am drawn to the multi-colored, designer fanciful selvages. For my first Scrap Happy project, I used selvage scraps to make the 1-hour basket found at KelbySews.
