Scrap Happy Pillow

Unlike the local public school system, that wisely starts back AFTER Labor Day, I start back to my school on Monday.  It doesn’t help that my school is located one block from the oceanfront, either. (Cue: Little ones sighing as they watch beach goers, surfers, and generally everyone else walking or biking towards the beach).  LOL. 😀

It’s mid-month and time for the ScrapHappy Project hosted by Kate and Gun.  There are many ideas percolating in my head, but in getting ready for school to open I’ve only completed a tiny scrappy project. 

AUGUST SCRAPPY PROJECT CHOICE

I just loved the colors and prints of of Micheal Miller’s Flower Shop collection.  For August’s project I sewed a pillow case using scraps from a quilt I sewed for my 86-year old mom. 

IKEA Hack: Doll Bed

Every teacher is asked to donate an item to our annual school auction. I decided upon donating an 18″ doll and accessories after finding the handmade school uniform made for my daughter’s A.G. doll. The package has grown. LOL.

Every doll needs a bed, right? IKEA’s solid pine Duktig bed fits 18″ dolls perfectly; but it is a little bland.

Field Trip: Alison Glass Studio

Recently I had the privilege to visit textile designer, Alison Glass‘, home studio. I’ve been quilting for a little over two years and find field trips like this very exciting and educational. I’m so glad she invited our guild into her studio. I’ll let the images do the walking and talking . . . 

Memorial Quilts

I’ve never given much thought towards “memorial quilts” and what they might entail. I recently had the privilege to work on one for a colleague.  There wasn’t much to work with, very few outfits, as her sweet baby girl passed at four months of age many years ago.

What a humbling opportunity. Although, I did not know this mother so long ago when this tragedy happened, working on this quilt was a little emotional for me. Each little smocked dress or printed sleeper has a story I am sure. 

Pirates and Treasure Maps

Wasted away on the beach today; love the feeling of cool sand between the toes. Perfect day to photograph this little throw quilt that has finally used up the last of my (hard to find) Sarah Jane’s “Out to Sea” fabric line.  Pirates and treasure maps and booty. Adventurous “newspaper hat pirates” plotting to find a chest full of treasure.

 

Another Horse Quilt or Never Say Never

Just completed a custom “wild horse romp” quilt. It’s my second one. 

I swore I’d never make another.
