A guild member had dozens of insulated metallic cold shipping pouches left over from the holidays and put forth an upcycle challenge. Ha! I could do this! I found the 15-Minute Water Bottle Sling pouch pattern. It looked easy, quick, simple and would do nicely as a Scrap Happy project. The insulated shipping pouch would make the perfect liner. How smug I was.

Upcycled Jean Quilt and This & That
First, This & That:
So much crammed into one month. Are your weekends busy, too? LOL . . . We are all so very proud of our son-in-law on his recent graduation. I marvel at those who balance their lives with work, raising a family, keeping house, the reserves AND complete university.
We celebrated our daughter’s and sister’s birthdays at a fav Mexican restaurant. The waiters presented my sister with a flan dessert and my daughter a shot of tequila. 🙂 #agediscrimination?

On a recent Saturday, I tagged along to a modern quilt club meeting with friends. Some amazing quilts were collected for the ALS Foundation. Very cool . . .
And now, on to the Upcycled Jean Quilt:
I’m stoked. I just completed my second quilt; a lap quilt for my grandson. Keeping to a simple pattern, I reused old jeans and added patriotic fabrics. I wanted to make a “boy” quilt for him to use on a cold winter evening while snuggling on the sofa.
I’m still in the learning phase. Made plenty of mistakes.
I learned that all jeans are not created equal; especially stretch denim. 😉 Who knew?
I am fascinated by modern quilts. Getting ready to start my third quilt project. 🙂

Reuse ~ Repurpose ~ Upcycle
So just WHAT does it all mean? I find these terms all over ‘blogdom’.
I decide to do a little sleuthing…
Well, we all know what it is to REUSE. I try to reuse shipping materials from my Etsy shop whenever possible. When reusing, the value of the products remain the same.
However, I am saving time, money, energy and resources.

* * *
When I REPURPOSE, I am no longer using a product as originally intended. I have given it a new purpose; increasing its aesthetic and monetary value. Before repurposing, these items are usually considered junk or garbage.
I’ve repurposed discarded items into art and functional pieces.

* * *
To UPCYCLE is to reuse an old item in an altered and innovative way giving it more value. This results in better quality and higher environmental value.
I’ve upcycled architectural salvage with a new function in mind.

So . . . in a nutshell:
